Three Surveys

These three surveys, photographed following the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) guidelines, start with a look at private developing and construction, first with the basic community exclusion by large inaccessible apartment buildings and later by the symbolism of one nation asserting it’s superiority over others while working to exclude the most needy. An overlooked public construction project designed to better the community acts as a bridge between the two sets of images. By considering these images as an addition to a national historic archive these surveys explore the way we value our past, our present and how we could remember it as our future.
