aperture. shutter speed. iso.&#38;nbsp;
aperture- how big the opening is to let light in. 
smaller number (f/2 for example)=more open, more light, less depth of field
larger number (f/16 for example)=more closed less light, more depth of field.&#38;nbsp;
for photographing artwork try to use an aperture around two stops more open from the smallest aperture setting (highest number)&#38;nbsp;if your lens goes to f/16, open up to f/9 etc.&#38;nbsp;
this will ensure maximum sharpness, avoid diffraction, and allow all elements in the image to be in focus.&#38;nbsp;
since aperture is fixed, to control exposure we will use shutter speed and iso.&#38;nbsp;
shutter speed is amount of time the sensor is exposed to light.&#38;nbsp;
iso is how sensitive the sensor is. The higher the iso, the more light the sensor can see, but at the expense of noise.&#38;nbsp;
try to use as low of an iso possible.&#38;nbsp;
use in camera exposure meter and tools and expose just a little under to avoid clipping highlights.&#38;nbsp;

the basic formula for flat artwork is to have two strobes at a little less than a 45 degree angle at either side of the artwork.&#38;nbsp;

think about how you can use the available light to hit the artwork the same way.&#38;nbsp;
using reflectors is a simple way to divert light.&#38;nbsp;
a couple of posterboards that are black on one side and white on the other are very useful.&#38;nbsp;
experiment and take your time.&#38;nbsp;
look at the light sources in the room. if there is sunlight available, use that. try to only have one type of light, avoid mixed lighting. for example, only turn off fluorescent lights if you are using sunlight, or if you have some warm incandescent lights and some fluorescent, try to swith one or the other off.&#38;nbsp;
